Medicare Savings Programs
State help that pays your Medicare premiums, and sometimes deductibles and copays.
Medicare Extra Help
Lowers what you pay for prescription drugs under Medicare Part D.
SNAP (food support)
Monthly money for groceries. Older adults often qualify for more than they expect.
Social Security & SSI
Checks whether the person may be missing Social Security or Supplemental Security Income.
Federal tax credits

Helps pay for housing with services for adults who can't live independently.
Minnesota Supplemental Aid
A monthly cash supplement for people receiving SSI.
Property tax refund
A refund for homeowners, with a larger one for seniors and people with disabilities.
Renter's credit
A refund of part of the property tax included in a renter's rent.
Energy Assistance (LIHEAP)
Help with heating bills, plus emergency help if service is at risk.
Weatherization Assistance
Free home improvements that lower heating costs.
Hospital financial assistance
Charity care that can reduce or erase a hospital bill. Non-profit hospitals must offer it.
Long-term care insurance credit
A Minnesota tax credit for part of a long-term care insurance premium.
Caregiver respite
Short breaks for a family caregiver, so someone else takes over for a while.
Paid Family and Medical Leave
Paid time off for a working family member caring for a seriously ill relative.
MinnesotaCare
Low-cost health coverage for people who earn too much for Medical Assistance.
Minnesota Family Investment Program
Cash and food help for families with children.
General Assistance
A small monthly cash grant for adults who can't work and have no other income.
Child Care Assistance
Helps pay for child care so a caregiver can work or go to school.
WIC
Food, formula and nutrition support for pregnant people and young children.
TEFRA
Medical Assistance for a child with a disability, without counting the parents' income.
Early Intensive Developmental and Behavioral Intervention
Autism and developmental treatment coverage for children and young adults.
Why the list is this specific
Every program here has a rule in our system with a source behind it: the government page or statute it came from, and the date we last checked it. We'd rather show you a shorter list we can stand behind than a bigger number we can't. Qualifying depends on income, assets, care needs and service history, so being on this list doesn't mean your family qualifies for it.
