What Get Bearings is

Get Bearings is a benefits navigation service. We take a plain-language description of a family member's care situation, identify benefit programs they may qualify for (VA, Medicaid, Medicare-related, hospital financial assistance, and others), and produce a personalized report and roadmap. Get Bearings is operated by Bearings OÜ.

Our products

Get Bearings sells three products today. Get Bearings Report is the personalized benefits report described above, and Get Bearings Plus is a subscription vault for keeping benefits information and documents up to date over time. Both are available for families to purchase now. Get Bearings Iris is a directory of care communities: contacting a community through Iris is always free for families, and communities may choose a paid visibility plan. Current pricing for all three is on our Pricing page.

These terms don't yet cover product-specific details for Plus, such as subscription billing periods, cancellation, and what happens to vault documents if you cancel. We'll add those details here. Iris operator terms are below.

Iris operator terms, version 1, effective 2026-09-05

These terms apply to organisations that list a senior living community on Get Bearings Iris. They add to the general terms above. If you list a community, you accept them on behalf of your organisation.

What you declare, you stand behind

Iris shows families what your community tells us. You are responsible for the accuracy of every declaration you make about your community, and for keeping it current. This includes which payment sources and programs you accept, any limit on residents using a program, any private-pay period you require, your licence status, and your answer to whether your state has licensed you for dementia care. Iris does not verify licences or program enrolment. If a declaration is wrong, correct it in your listing editor as soon as you know.

Leads you enter yourself

You may record leads that did not arrive through Iris, such as phone calls, walk-ins and professional referrals. When you do, you confirm that you have the person's permission to record their name and contact details, and that you will use them only to respond to their enquiry. Iris never contacts a person you entered manually. Their details stay within your organisation's Iris account and your own exports.

A subscription, not a referral fee

Iris is a flat subscription. Get Bearings does not receive anything of value, directly or indirectly, tied to a placement, a move-in or a family's choice of community. Families contact you through Iris at no cost to them. Your placement in the directory follows the disclosed tier ordering and is never sold per lead.

Your team

People you add to your organisation act for it. Keep at least one admin on the account. You are responsible for removing people who leave.

Changes

We will show a new version number and effective date here when these terms change, and tell your organisation's admins by email before the change takes effect.

What we are not

Get Bearings is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. We are not a medical provider and do not provide medical advice. We do not file, prepare, or submit any government benefits claim on your behalf, for any program, including VA claims. Federal law (38 U.S.C. §5904) prohibits charging a fee for VA claims assistance, and we route that work to a free, accredited County Veterans Service Officer instead. Every dollar figure we show is an estimate based on the information you provide, pending confirmation from the relevant agency or a qualified professional. We do not guarantee any benefit approval or amount.

Processing by an AI provider

To find benefits, we send the description and answers you provide to an AI provider so it can pull out structured facts and check your finished report for problems before you see it. Only your scrubbed answers are sent, never your Social Security number, date of birth, full address, last name, or account numbers. If you decline, we can't process your description and the narrative step won't be available to you.

Sharing and use of our content

If you buy a report, you may share it with your spouse and other family members using the secure share link built into the product. That link is meant for the people you're coordinating care with. Companies and AI systems may not scrape, crawl, or otherwise reuse our data, figures, or underlying models for their own purposes.

Payment and refunds

Reports purchased before the free-report release remain covered by the refund terms below. Payment is processed by Creem (creem.io), our Merchant of Record. A Merchant of Record is a third-party company that legally sells our product on our behalf and handles the transaction, card processing, and sales tax, so your card statement will show a charge from Creem, not directly from Get Bearings.

You can request a refund within 14 days of purchase using our refund request form. Refunds are considered only when (a) the report was not delivered, or (b) something is materially wrong with the report itself, for example it shows the wrong person's data, programs from the wrong state, or figures that don't match the cited sources.

Not being approved for a benefit, or a benefit amount coming in different from our estimate, is not grounds for a refund: the report is a navigation aid, not an eligibility decision, and the relevant agency always makes the final call. We review each request individually against what was promised versus what was delivered, and an approved refund is processed back to your original payment method.

Get Bearings Plus is billed as a subscription, not a one-time purchase, and its billing period and cancellation terms aren't covered by this section yet, see "Our products" above.

Your account

We use email-based sign-in links, not passwords. You're responsible for keeping access to your email account secure. You can export your data or request account deletion at any time from your account settings. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Changes to these terms

If we materially change these terms, we'll show the updated version at your next sign-in and ask you to acknowledge it, the same way we asked at signup.
